Student-Centered Science Enrichment: A Pyramid Scheme That Really Pays Off

Daniel J. Menelly

Developing authentic enrichment opportunities is a task that some classroom teachers reluctantly set aside in attempting to meet the day-to-day demands of a full-time teaching assignment. While struggling to meet the needs of my motivated middle school science students, I designed an enrichment pyramid scheme to allow students to extend their achievement in science. The results are encouraging in that they offer a manageable supplement to classroom differentiation and catalyze the independent thinking of young scientists.
